Dear Diary, Still Autumn 1997
Afterwards, we were all on the bus getting ready to sleep (my make up was off, I had my raggedy old pajamas on and I was already dozing with a bit of a hangover in the distance)., when the bus started to move and Danny quietly said: "Ok, so we won’t get married." Remember I told you I was literally pushed into his arms just before we first kissed? Well, the same thing happened this time, except instead of being pushed, I was slapped in the face! We ran through the bus and shouted: "find us a chapel! We’re getting married!" After we got a permit, we went to "the little white wedding chapel" where the clerk gave us a bunch of options. Did we want a professional photographer? A video perhaps? He went on a while longer and we said no thanks, we have people with cameras and Wim will film the whole thing. Everyone was there, except Ross the light-man: he conked out as soon as he got on the bus and could not be woken up. I appointed Ben, our tour manager, to give me away. He said he wanted a word with me. He asked if I was a hundred percent sure about this. I guess it was his job as the dude that gives me awayJ.

There we were, waiting for a priest to wake up and everybody still drunk from last night, dark sunglasses galore! Wim (keyboard player) was filming all right and someone else was taking pictures. Mike (another light-man) gave me a bunch of grass from just outside for a bouquet and Pim (our bass player) borrowed me his ring. Kurt (drummer) was going to take the pictures. We were ready to start! The whole crew was there! This, my friends, was a rock and roll wedding if ever there was one! Even the bus driver put in his share: he bought me a proper bouquet with roses and stuff. He meant well, but the grass was more personal: hand picked by one of our favorite crew guys. Anyway, now we had something to throw away! Finally the priest arrived and it seemed like he didn’t really take us seriously until he saw Danny and me cry. From that moment on he became real serious and started talking about seeds and trees and things. We didn’t quite hear him so well. Because he was quiet or because we were sobbing pretty loud? Who knows? We’d hear it all again later, on the video Wim was filming, right?
