Dear Diary,
June 2001

On the 28th of May I did a show in the AB club in Brussels. Danny and I had worked on stage props for about 2 days : a musicsheet stand with candles and candlewax dripping down it...an elegant table, covered with purple satin. My silver cup and a silver colored waterpitcher, beautifully decorated with a sparkly hexagram...
a pretty candleholder and a little box with glittery stuff inside...flowers spread over the top and the foot of the table.

Danny made a leather map look like a big antique witches' book that could be stuffed with recepies for love potions and spells or something. Ah yes, gear for a diva!

My outfit : a beautifully made corset - black with pink flowers and a black skirt with punky boots. To top it all off : a tiara fit for a princess like me :) and jewellery to match.

Now wait a minute! Let's not forget to mention this : I was so nervous during rehearsals that I almost threw the drummer (Rudy) out 3 times! Poor man...honestly, I was terrified about this show. This one was very important ; it was for record company people, concert promotors, booking agents, press and tv! Hello!
Just before we got on stage, my corset seemed to shrink on me, suffocating me, stopping air from getting into my lungs...and I panicked. "Aaaah! Open the laces! More - moooore!!" Well, I was of course hyperventilating as I seem to do on a regular basis...I was dizzy and scared and excited all at once! Stepping on to the stage I could feel my heart beat through my chest and in my ears. There's the microphone...oh my God...no note is gonna come out of my throat ... I GOT TO PEE and damn this tight bitch of a corset!!! Just as I wanted to scream or run away the music played and my backup singers started to sing and I just got into this zone where I knew all is well, no matter what. Yeah, magic is the word. I was in a safe space, surrounded with lovely people. See, we (the whole band) were smart enough to invite all our friends over, so we wouldn't feel like we were performing for businesspeople only.
Even my friend Marie flew over from the UK to see the show! Everything went right. The lights were beautiful , the band fantastic and the sound great. What a great evening this turned out to be...needless to say I was on a wonderful buzz for the next couple of days or so! Now, on to the next one ; Marktrock on August 13th. On the same day we'll be doing a short acoustic set for TMF (the music factory = tv).

Well, my patience was put to a test this last year and now things are happening fast! I'm doing lots of interviews for lots of newspapers, magazines and radio stations and I'm producing songs for new talent. Yep, I'm one busy girl!
All this time I've worked in the music scene I was never appreciated the way that I am now...before, most people saw me as "a singer for Praga Khan and LOA" and it didn't matter how hard I worked ; I could not change their minds about my (valuable) input in these projects!
This may sound like a cliché but it's true ; as a girl in Musicland you better buy your own studio and make AND produce your songs BY YOURSELF if you want some respect...that means : work at least 3 times as hard as your male collegues!
I'm so happy that Danny grew to like engineering ; he's getting better at it all the time. He never tries to block my creativity and he supports me all the way. We make a great team!
There! Just wanted to get that off my chest :)

Finally, after all these years, I'm getting some Belgian fans! So I'd like to say welcome to them.
To all those people that stuck with me for about 12(!) years now : thanks for staying!!

Well, I'm off. I'm producing a couple of songs for an opera singer and I can hardly wait to see where this is going. I'm quite excited!
