Dear Diary, 1993 Still
Image Rick Rubin of Def American (later American Records) wants us! He even called me at home to say he thought I had the best house voice in the world! Not much later Praga and I went to America to record a song for Digital Orgasm (DO)"Guilty of Love" with the man himself! In fact, one day Rick called us up from another studio. He told us to come see him. When we got there, Mick Jagger was recording "Don’t tear me Up". This was amazing! I tried to play cool, but it was stronger than myself. I took my camera out of my bag and asked for a picture of us! He was very sweet and patient. Anyway, the reason for us being there was that Rick wanted Mick to listen to some of our stuff. He put the poor man in between the speakers and put on our techno noise real loud. Mick managed to keep a straight face, but Maurice and I were feeling very uncomfortable. Especially when Rick told Mick to make music like ours!
Well, this was a big year! Maurice, Oliver and I were signed by Rick Rubin . One of our tracks was used in the movie Basic Instinct: "Rave the Rhythm" by Channel X. A while later we were in Sliver with "Most Wonderful Girl". To top it all off we started a tour in Scotland. What an amazing country. So beautiful! The people were so friendly that I almost considered moving there. You want an anecdote? You got it! On one of the long hauls on Scottish highways we decided to stop and eat at a road restaurant. We were sitting together, picking beans off our plates, talking. As Maurice lifted up his fork to put a bean in his mouth, he lingered a bit. That gave me time to see that the bean was not exactly a bean! It seemed like all of a sudden Rosie and Jeffie saw it too. We screamed simultaneously after taking an even closer look. That’s when Maurice saw it too. No sir, that was so not a bean. This was something else. With a mouth and 2 eyes. It could have been a frog’s or a snake’s head. Or maybe an alien’s head. With a fork sticking through it. I don’t think I ever encountered anything more disgusting in my life. I jumped up and ran through the place, screaming "Yuck!", almost vomiting and laughing at the same time. Finally I had the courage to put the "thing" on a plate and strode to the cashier (there was a line of people waiting. Imagine their faces!). I set the plate in front of her with plenty gestures for everyone to enjoy and shouted: "What is this? We’re not paying for this! Look at it! I have to say she stayed real calm and so did the waiting crowd. Needless to say we weren’t hungry anymore. In fact none of us hardly ate at all for the next few days, because there was always someone who’d remind us. In fact, none of us ever forgot.
