Dear Diary, 1994.
We were asked by Avex Records in Japan to make a new techno album. It became "Take it to the top". Project: Channel X. Image I never really understood the need for so many different band names, but that’s record company stuff. Anyway, this album became nr. 1 in the Japanese dance charts.
Yet again we went to Japan! Some faces were becoming familiar now and even some of the Japanese business people are starting to accept our different ways (hugging, laughing without covering our mouths…) and of course as usual we went to Yoyogi Park on Sundays. What an incredible place! There’s this long street with bands playing side by side and dancers impersonating Elvis Presley. It’s a real party, but one that never changes. It doesn’t matter how often you go; it’s always the same. The same bands, the same fans making the same moves simultaneously…I saw it in the summer and there is nothing quite like it! And none of those stiff people there: this is where the youngsters, the would-be hippies and foreigners hang out. Have I already told you that the best cakes in the world are in Japan? I have never tasted cake like that in my whole life! When they copy something like that, they make damn sure it’s better than the original! This was also the trip where my ego got dented some. But that is a different story and mind your own business J
